Ariana Grande & Cynthia Erivo to Star in ‘Wicked’ Movie Musical

Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo revealed Thursday, November 4th, that they will be starring in the movie adaptation of the hit Broadway musical Wicked.

Both stars shared pictures of the tearful phone call when they were told they made the cut. Grande will be playing Glinda the Good Witch, a role made famous by Kristin Chenoweth in the original 2003 production. Erivo will play Elphaba the Wicked Witch of the West, originated by Idina Menzel on Broadway.

Drake's Landmark LP "Take Care" Still Influencing the Music of Today

When Drake’s second album, Take Care, leaked online in November 2011, all his passion and purpose he’d conveyed into making the record was suddenly available to anyone willing to download it.

Take Care would become Drake’s defining work. The record honed his sound and solidified the emotional core of his music. The dark, moody record, that wavered between hurt and hubris, bewitched with its own inertia. It demands immersion and intention. In the ten years since the album’s release, its grip on the music industry has only gotten stronger.

At the time, critic after critic wrote how Drake seesawed between pop and rap. However, it’s clearer now how he activated a path that would wipe out genre entirely. Without Drake, we wouldn’t have the wave of melodic SoundCloud rappers or the beat switch-happy blare of pop artists trying on rap and vice versa today.

#FreeBritney Goes into Full Swing as Britney Spears Spends Her First Weekend Free of Conservatorship

After 13 years, Britney Spears’s conservatorship officially ended this past Friday, 11/12/2021, thanks to a Los Angeles judge and pressure of fans with the hashtag #FreeBritney. Spears has been celebrating her newfound freedom of legal guardianship. Spears took to Instagram and posted this on her feed:

“What an amazing weekend … I felt like I was on cloud 9 the whole time !!! I actually got my first glass of champagne at the most beautiful restaurant I’ve ever seen last night !!!!" Spears captioned a photo of lipstick stuck on a fork. "I’m celebrating my freedom and my B-day for the next two months !!!!!!!!!!! I mean after 13 years … I think I’ve waited long ENOUGH !!!!"

Spears also made sure to thank her lawyer and devoted fans who took the time and rallied for her to end her conservatorship:

“I’m so happy my lawyer Mathew Rosengart came into my life when he did … he has truly turned my life around … I’m forever thankful for that !!!!" the 39-year-old added. "What a sight seeing so many people celebrating my victory …. I love my fans so much … so thank you !!!!"

Roblox Secures Deal With Sony Music

Roblox, an online gaming creation that is very popular with children, reached 42.1 million daily active users (DAUs) for the first quarter of 2021 with an increase of 79% year over year. Roblox has recently secured a partnership with Sony Music Entertainment (SME). Warner Music Group has also provided an eight-figure investment for Roblox. 

This gaming company served as a platform for Lil Nas X and Swedish singer Zara Larsson, hosting big concerts where Lil Nas X debuted with his song “Holiday” in November 2020 (the first-ever live virtual concert where 36 million people watched). Zara Larsson had over 4 million visits for her launch party back in May 2021. Roblox’s partnerships with music companies would allow artists to generate revenue through streams as people play the game. Roblox and SME aim to develop “innovative music experiences for the Roblox community”.

No surprise that Da Baby’s Rockstar featuring Roddy Ricch is #1. "Rockstar," released on SouthCoast/Interscope Records, posts a fourth week at No. 1 on the Streaming Songs chart, with 35.7 million U.S. streams (up 3%) in the week ending June 11, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data.

Popularity brings opportunity. According to The Guardian, Loren Gray is a teenager from Pennsylvania. She holds the crown of “most marketable TikToker,” with over 2.4 Billion likes. Gray has used her success on TikTok to obtain two record deals, with Virgin Records and Capitol Records.

How Do They Get Paid?

Rolling Stone highlights that TikTok is not the same as other apps when it comes to royalties. Music holders do not get paid per view. Instead they are paid per post including their original songs. TikTok users are not paid directly from the app. Popular TikTokers are approached by music artists that are willing to pay for the user to feature their songs. As we have learn, TikTok can take your music to the next level, a smart investment.
